In 2012 Caltrate South Africa, part of the international pharmaceutical corporation Pfizer, was in desperate need of a website redevelopment. Their existing website was out-dated, was not easy for the client to maintain and was cumbersome for the visitor to navigate.

A decision was made to completely update the existing system and bring it into line with current international website standards. ThinkUber was asked to provide the developmental resources and worked closely with an online strategy and development agency to complete all necessary development duties within scope and budget.

As part of updating the original system, ThinkUber had to set up a multisite Drupal environment, which provided the basis for the website. This allows for multiple sites to managed, maintained and upgraded centrally from one back end. A completely customised website design was then converted into pixel perfect CSS and HTML to form the theme for the website, ensuring design consistency throughout. This theme was quality tested, and integrated into the site. Two additional layout designs were conceptualised for mobile visitors accessing the site through their smart phones or feature phones.

The website also had to feature social media integration. The Facebook Social Plugin was used to bridge the gap between the existing social media presence on Facebook and the wide target audience interacting with the company through the corporate website. This allows users not present on social media platforms to get the latest information posted there, via the standard website. An additional feature ThinkUber included is the ability to post custom content on a specially created Facebook tab. A layout design was conceptualised and developed especially for this Facebook integration so that the website design consistency was maintained throughout.

Further development tasks undertaken by ThinkUber include the custom creation of an events gallery, which allows the content administrators to upload images of events held by Caltrate. This makes it easy for the visitor to find and access the various images.

Another service ThinkUber dutifully provided was an advanced security analysis of the core system. This then allowed for further security improvements, resulting in the safety and security of the website being verified. This resulted in the website being rated A+ for ‘Performance’, ‘SEO’ and ‘Best Practices’ respectively by internationally recognised commercial open-source Drupal development company Acquia. This is especially important when considering the corporate multinational nature of the client.
